Short-term rentals in Strasbourg: what the regulations say
Before listing your property on Airbnb in Strasbourg, you need to know the rules of the game. The Strasbourg metropolis, like most large French cities, regulates furnished short-term rentals. Here are the essentials, in plain language.
Town hall registration: mandatory
Every furnished tourist rental must be registered with the town hall (or the Eurométropole for Strasbourg and its municipalities). The process is done online, free of charge, and results in a registration number that must be displayed on your Airbnb listing.

Primary residence: the 120-day rule
If the rented property is your primary residence, you can rent it up to 120 nights per year without special authorisation. Beyond that, you need a change-of-use authorisation, which is tightly controlled in Strasbourg.
For a second home or an investment property, year-round rental is possible, but some municipalities require a change-of-use authorisation with compensation (converting a home into a tourist rental then requires creating an equivalent home elsewhere).
And in the rest of the Bas-Rhin?
Outside the Strasbourg metropolis, the rules are more flexible: Obernai, Molsheim, Sélestat, Saverne and the Wine Route villages generally only require town hall registration with a registration number. That's one reason rental yields are attractive there: strong tourist demand, low constraints.
